On Sunday, June 12, 2011, I will be participating in the 5th Annual “Pedaling for Prevention” Bike Ride. The event raises money in support of the patients at The Burn Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Patients come from all around the state of New Jersey because The Burn Center is the only certified burn treatment facility in New Jersey. Every year hundreds of burn survivors are treated as inpatients in addition to the over 5,000 annual outpatient visits. Sadly, over 40% of the patients they treat are under the age of five. The Burn Foundation’s mission is prevention through education because they believe the best way to treat a burn is to prevent it from ever happening. The road back from a burn injury is a long, painful, physical and emotional journey and yet, fifty percent of all burns can be prevented. I will be riding 40, 25 or 10 miles on behalf of the Foundation. I am asking my family and friends to help me raise money for this great cause by making a pledge in my name to the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation. It’s easy to do: Make a donation online with your credit card Make your check payable to Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation and mail directly to them at 94 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ 07039 Give me the check (payable to Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation) and I’ll bring it with me the day of the event. If you choose to write a check, be sure to include “bike tour” and my name on the memo line so I’ll get the credit.
Why We Ride “The Past We Can’t Change…The Future We Can” is the motto of the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation. The Foundation is the educational, research and fundraising arm of The Burn Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. The mission of the Burn Foundation is prevention through education because the best way to treat a burn is to prevent it from ever happening. Since 1987, the Burn Foundation has been providing fire safety and burn prevention education programs to school children, businesses, community organizations, healthcare professionals and fire service personnel across the state. Annually Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation and The Burn Center touch the lives of over 34,000 individuals through either lifesaving prevention and education programs or direct patient care. Sadly, 40% of our inpatients are under the age of five. The Burn Foundation is dedicated to the complete physical and emotional recovery of those affected by a burn injury.
